Sometimes I get tired of working out to the same playlist and I have to switch it up! I’m also pretty particular about what songs I listen to while I’m doing certain things (cardio, strength-training, stretching, etc.).
Because everyone loves to find a song that pumps them up for a workout or keeps them going through it, I’ve put together a list of 10 of my favorite songs to listen to while I workout:
1. ALEX BOYÉ – I AM GOLD
We went to an Alex Boyé concert in 2013 and during the concert he shared that a conversation with his wife about the Summer 2012 Olympics was the inspiration for this song, which in my opinion makes it kinda the perfect song to work out to this summer! I am gold, you are gold, each of us is gold because of our identity as children of God and I love that message.
2. ATB – COULD YOU BELIEVE (AIRPLAY MIX)
I love listening to this song when I’m doing cardio, it’s got a great beat! Plus, the fact that the words “running” and “don’t stop” are in the lyrics keep me pumped (regardless of their context) 🙂
3. CASCADA – FEVER (RYAN THISTLEBECK MIX)
If this song doesn’t get me ready for a workout, I don’t know what will because this beat just yells at me to get to the gym.
4. COMMODORES – LADY (YOU BRING ME UP)
This song is on the slower side. I listen to it when I’m doing weights or other strengthening exercises because it has a nice, steady rhythm. Sometimes I play it at the end of my workout when I’m stretching.
5. BRUNO MARS – TREASURE
Songs can trigger memories and the memory that comes along with this song is like taking a mini vacation for me–it played on the radio a lot when we lived in Hawaii, so it reminds me of driving along Kamehameha highway, and I love that.
It has a nice, smooth rhythm so I listen to this one when I’m doing weights or strength training.
6. STEVE ANGELLO & MATISSE & SADKO – SLVR
This song is a little intense but it gets me ready to roll! I listen to it and I’m like, okay, bring on the treadmill, bring on the leg press, let’s do this!
7. BIGBANG – SOMEBODY TO LOVE (KOREAN VERSION)
I think fans of K-Pop will like this one. My husband served his mission in Korea so he lived there for a couple years and already knew this song, but I didn’t hear it until a little while after we met and it was the first time I had heard K-Pop. This song is fun and upbeat!
8. FLIGHT FACILITIES – STAND STILL (FEAT. MICKY GREEN) [WAVE RACER REMIX]
This track is unique. Because of the change in rhythm throughout the song I use this one for interval training. I’ll run like heck during the quicker part, and slow it down a bit during the relaxed part.
9. CALVIN HARRIS – THINKING ABOUT YOU (FEAT. AYAH MARAR)
Catchy song, steady pace. ‘Nuff said.
10. OWL CITY – WHEN CAN I SEE YOU AGAIN?
Had to end the list with this one because it’s the happiest of them all, and has a fun, electronic beat.
